News Worthy
So many things happened during this week. From Hurricane Ike, to Zuma’s invalid charge judgement. But Zapiro started last week off to an interesting start.
Now ofcause the climax happened on Friday 12 September during Steve Bikos 31 memorial of his deah. I call it a memorial because I personally don’t think someones death can be labelled as an anniversary. But thats just me , actually I don’t even know the dictionary explaination for the word.
Back to Zuma, I watched his judgement with great interest. It was quite a long judgement from judge Nicholson. At sometime I could swear Zuma was falling asleep. But towards the end of the judges reading of the judgement it was clear what the verdict would be.
I then waited patiently for Zumas speech, to tell you the truth I wanted to hear him sing umshini wam, and our future president did not disappoint. After his reply he hesitated a bit as if to drive the audience to beg him for a rendition of his iconic catchy tune. Then he started and the crowd responded.
Prior to Zumas reply ANC Chairperson Baleka Mbethe commented on Zapiros infamous – Zuma rapes lady Justice system – cartoon. She said it was racist with Zapiro portraying Lady Justice as a white woman. My initial thought was to believe Mbethe but after visiting the M&G website this morning I could not confirm Mbethes claims on the race of the Lady in the cartoon. As a matter of fact the lady looked quite black to me, fullish lips and a wide nose.
The drama continues and the news keep coming in, with the Shaik brothers promising to ask for a presidential pardon, the rand falling to its lowest since 2003, Zapiro coming up with another cartoon portraying the same characters only cahnging the copy, the peace signing deal in Zimbabwe and the call for Mbeki to be oust and how can I forget Sebastian Vettels brilliant win in Italy, leaving the F1 championship open for Hamilton, Massa and Kubica.
We are living in interesting times and nothing is as it seems. And nothing is over until the fat lady sings or until Judge Chris Nicholson passes judgement. Watch the news for this is a drama filled week.
